Let's take a tour!

Welcome back... this post I'll just show you around a bit to give a sense of what we're working with.

Right off the bat, the unique touches are clear... feast your eyes on the beautiful cedar shake shingles INSIDE. As you enter off the porch the cedar shingles to you right are opposing the well done built in book cases around the fireplace.

The built ins and hard wood floors made up for the odd shingles. The walls were pretty bland so left us with plenty of options.

Dining room adjoining the living room... never really had one of those before.

The first of four bedrooms is right off the living room through the cedar shake wall. Three windows, one tiny closet and plenty of old wallpaper. Will take a bit of elbow grease to get that off, but should spruce up pretty nice. Not huge fans of the track lighting or popcorn ceiling, but nothing that can't be addressed later.

What's this? More shingles??? A small glass shelved and lit closet where the previous owners grew plants us in a hallway off of the dining room with a small linen closet to it's left, the main floor bathroom, door to the master bedroom and door to the upstairs.

The oddest corner hobbit tub sums up the bathroom. Sweet tile, but dated. Hope to redo at some point, but isn't a top priority.

The kitchen off of the dining room is larger than any we've had. The built in table is nice enough for now, but overall the room is pretty dated. Notice the classy, antique Jenn-Air two burner, electric grill (which doesn't work), and miniature oven (because of the grease catch for the electric grill).

Some decades old, well worn, sky blue carpet in the master bedroom. Nice touch!

But the master closet has a sink! I've never seen anything like it. At first we thought it would go when we get around to redoing the closet, but after using it a while, it's actually quite nice to keep brushing, shaving, etc. separate from the shower and bath. If anyone has a big enough closet & opportunity to add a sink, it's actually kinda nice.

Down to the basement, more vintage carpet & dark wainscoting, with a spongy drop ceiling... Love it!

Off the basement living area is a bathroom, laundry/shop room and spare "dark room?" We've called this the servants quarters cause it was freezing, cellar like & had just a sink and small partition hiding a boarded up window... just another touch of class.

The old, broken and de-chimneyed goliath of a wood stove. We can imagine the heat that would have given off as some of the drop ceiling above as had to be replaced with something metallic (assume it melted??).

Last is the upstairs. Follow the blood red earth worm sized shag carpet up the stairs. Off to either side you see... EVEN MORE SHINGLES!

This is actually pretty wild. The entire top level is either done in cedar shingles or pine. Not sure if we'll be able to sell or reuse the cedar shakes, but I'm excited to see what I can build with all the spare wood up there too.

The orange shag through out will have to go as well as the red... let's just say we'll put that on the list.

That's pretty much the place. The bag yard will take some work, but has enough green for our first summer to be pleasant enough. The single stall garage has seen better days, but hopefully will last us a few years.

Next post begins the actual renovation. The focus will be making the main floor livable while also disassembling the basement which is musty and old enough that it's clear it needs to go! Until next time.
